Program Description

Discover the history, traditions and culture of Jewish Vienna at the Jewish Museum Vienna, located in the heart of the city. Across two locations, you will explore different aspects of Jewish history and identity, from the Middle Ages to the present day.

At the Dorotheergasse location, just a few minutes’ walk from St Stephen’s Cathedral, you can explore the permanent exhibition “Our City! Jewish Vienna to the Present”. The exhibition presents the history of Jewish Vienna from the Middle Ages to the present day, offering an overview of the community’s history and development.

The museum’s second location is at Judenplatz. Its permanent exhibition “Our Middle Ages! The First Jewish Community in Vienna” focuses on Vienna’s first Jewish community. You will learn about everyday life and discover the history of Judenplatz as an urban site.

The museum also presents changing exhibitions, offering different perspectives on Jewish history, culture and identity in Vienna.

A visit to the Jewish Museum Vienna offers an opportunity to explore the history of the city through the experiences and heritage of its Jewish community.
